Objective To establish a detection method for 2-methylisoborneol in different water samples. Methods The 2-methylisoborneol in water samples was detected by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Results The 2-methylisoborneol had good linear relationships in the range of 0~40 ng/L, and the correlation coefficients were larger than or equal to 0.999. The limits of detection and quantification were 5 ng/L and 10 ng/L, respectively. The recoveries of 2-methylisoborneol of 3 different spiked levels were 82.3%~98.9%, with the relative standard deviations of 0.68%~1.31%. Conclusion This method can be used to determine the water soluble substance 2-methylisoborneol in drinking water, aquaculture water, fish and shrimp defrosting water and aquatic products processing wastewater accurately.
