Objective To screen the Bacillus strains producing pilosanol A. Methods Extracellular metabolites of 35 Bacillus strains were analyzed by liquid chromatography/quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (LC-QTOF MS). Results Only 6 Bacillus strains were obtained producing pilosanol A, including Bacillus murimartini FJAT-14258, Bacillus subtilis subsp. subtilis FJAT-14254, Bacillus subtilis subsp. spizizenii FJAT-14250, Bacillus macyae FJAT-14248, Bacillus methanolicus FJAT-14249, and Bacillus selenatarsenatis FJAT-14262. The content of pilosanol A in Bacillus murimartini FJAT-14258 was the highest, with the relative content of 0.18%. Conclusion This result can provide theory basis for the development and utilization of pilosanol A from Bacillus strains.
