Objective To quickly investigate the cause of food poisoning and provide technical support for the incident. Methods The possible cause of poisoning was analyzed by field epidemiological investigation, and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry was further applied to confirm the accuracy. Results Gel-semine was detected in eight samples out of nine samples from four food poisoning incidents in Guangdong province. Conclusion The method is rapid and accurate, and it is suitable for quick analysis of food poisoning samples.
