Objective To identify olive oil adulteration by gas chromatography combined with data analysis software. Methods Five kinds of olive oil were selected to adulterate with other 5 vegetable oils (from sunflower, soybean, rapeseed, corn and peanut) in different proportion. The content of fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) was detected in the simulated sample by gas chromatography-flame ionization detector (GC-FID). The prediction model was established using the data analysis software (mass profiler professional, MPP) and partial least square-discrimination analysis (PLS-DA) method. Results The results showed that the prediction accuracy was more than 90% in the identification of 1% adulterated samples. Conclusion Different kinds of adulterated olive oils can be identified well by this established method.
