Objective THz transmitted time-domain spectroscopy was used to detect different varieties of high oil maize seeds. Methods The effects on the spectra of measurement site, smoothness and breed were explored to analyze the feasibility of maize seed oil detection and breed discrimination. Results Intact samples had no effective absorption spectra, and maize embryo showed no obvious absorption peaks. Further experiment with FTIR results showed that maize seed endosperm of different breeds have obvious differences and characteristic absorption peaks in THz waveband. Conclusion It provides a reference for the high oil maize classification and ingredient detection.
