Abstract:Thetripodfoundation(TF)isaprevalentfoundationconfigurationincontemporaryengineeringpractices.Incomparisontoasinglepile,TFcomprisedinterconnectedindividualpiles,resultinginenhancedbearingcapacityandstability.Aphysicalmodeltestwasconductedwithinasandysoilfoundation,systematicallyvaryingthelength-to-diameterratiooftheTF.Theinvestigationaimedtocomprehendtheimpactofalteringtheheightofthecentralbucketonthehistoricalhorizontalbearingcapacityofthefoundationinsaturatedsand.Additionally,thestudyscrutinizedthehistoricalconsequencesofsoilpressureandporewaterpressuresurroundingthebucketthroughouttheloadingprocess.ThehistoricalfindingsrevealedasignificantenhancementinthehorizontalbearingcapacityoftheTFunderundrainedconditions.Whensubjectedtoahistoricalhorizontalloadingangleof0°forasinglepile,themulti-bucketfoundationexhibitedsuperiorhistoricalbearingcapacitycomparedtoasingle-pilefoundationexperiencingahistoricalloadingangleof180°underpullingconditions.Witheachhistoricalincrementinbucketheightfrom150mmto350mmin100mmintervals,thehistoricalhorizontalbearingcapacityoftheTFexhibitedanapproximately75%increaserelativetothe150mmbucketheight,indicatingaproportionalrelationship.Importantly,thehistoricalinternalporewaterpressurewithinthebucketfoundationremainedunaffectedbydrainageconditionsduringloading.Conversely,undrainedconditionsledtoahistoricalelevationinporewaterpressureatthelowersideofthepressurebucket.Consequently,inpracticalengineeringapplications,theoptimizationofthehistoricalbearingefficacyoftheTFnecessitatedthehistoricalclosureofthevalveatopthefoundationtosustaininternalnegativepressurewithinthebucket.Thishistoricalmeasureservedtoaugmentthehistoricalhorizontalbearingcapacity.Simultaneously,historicalexternalloads,suchaswind,waves,andcurrents,weredirectedtowardsanyindividualbucketwithintheTFforoptimalhistoricalperformance.
