Abstract：Inrecentyears,asChinahasbecomeamajorengineeringcountryintheworld,thestudyofModernChineseengineeringhistoryhasreceivedincreasingattention.Theresearchinthisfieldaimstosummarizeengineeringdevelopmentexperienceandprovidehistoricalreferencesforcurrentandfutureengineeringpractices.Thisarticlediscussesthreecoreissuesinthestudyofengineeringhistory,showingtherichconnotationsandcomplexchallengesofthestudyofengineeringhistory.Firstly,theissueofinternalandexternalhistoryinthestudyofengineeringhistorywasraised,emphasizingtheimportanceofdistinguishingbetweeninternalandexternalhistoryintheresearchprocess.Internalhistoryresearchfocusesonthedevelopmentprocessofengineeringitself,whileexternalhistoryresearchfocusesmoreontheinteractionbetweenengineeringandexternalfactorssuchassociety,politicsandculture.Especiallyintermsofengineeringdecision-making,publicopinionandpoliticalfactorsoftenhaveaprofoundimpactonthefinalimplementationofengineering,reflectingthecloseconnectionbetweenthestudyofengineeringhistoryandsocialreality.Secondly,thisarticlediscussesthehierarchicaldivisionandhistoricalcluesofengineeringhistoryresearch.Thestudyofengineeringhistoryshouldbedividedintothreelevels:micro,meso,andmacro.Itshouldcomprehensivelyexaminetheindividualprojects,industryorregionaldevelopment,andtheoverallstructureofengineeringfromthenationaltothegloballevel.Atthesametime,thesortingofhistoricalcluesalsorequiresattentiontomultipleaspectssuchasengineeringtechnology,engineeringcommunity,andengineeringsystemtorevealthecomplexityanddiversityofengineeringdevelopment.Finally,thisarticleemphasizestheconstructionofthedisciplineofChineseengineeringhistory.AlthoughthedisciplineofChineseengineeringhistoryhasenteredtherighttrack,itstillneedstofurtherstrengthencross-disciplinaryresearchwiththefieldsofhistoryofscience,historyoftechnology,andhistoryofeconomics,andpromoteacademicexchangesandcooperation.Atthesametime,itissuggestedtoinstitutionalizeacademicconferencesonengineeringhistory,activelycarryoutinternationalacademicexchanges,andpromotethedevelopmentofthedisciplineofChineseengineeringhistorytoahigherlevel.Insummary,thisarticleanalyzesthekeyissuesandchallengesinthestudyofengineeringhistory,providinganimportanttheoreticalframeworkandpracticalguidanceforthestudyofmodernChineseengineeringhistory.Inthefuture,withthecontinuousdeepeningofresearch,thedisciplineofChineseengineeringhistorywillsurelyusherinbroaderdevelopmentprospects.
