Anovelseriesof1,3-diphenyl-2-propen-1-one(chalcone)derivativeswassynthesizedbyasimple,ecofriendly,andefficientClaisen-Schmidtcondensationreactionandusedasprecursorsforthesynthesisofnewpyrazolinederivatives.Allthesynthesizedcompoundswerescreenedforanti-inflammatoryrelatedactivitiessuchasinhibitionofphospholipaseA2(PLA2),cyclooxygenases(COX-1andCOX-2),IL-6,andTNF-α.Theresultsoftheabovestudiesshowthatthecompoundssynthesizedareeffectiveinhibitorsofabovepro-inflammatoryenzymesandcytokines.Over-alt,theresultsofthestudiesrevealthatthepyrazolineswithchlorophenylsubstitution(1b-6b)seemtobeimportantforinhibitionofenzymesandcytokines.MoleculardockingexperimentswereperformedtoclarifythemolecularaspectsoftheobservedCOX-inhibitoryactivitiesoftheinvestigatedcompounds.
