Thispaperpresentsasynopsisofchallengesandcandidatesolutionsforbridgesthatrangefromwobblyfootbridgestofuturisticlongspanbridgesequippedtomorphtheirshapeforenhancingtheirperformancetovortex-inducedvibration(VIV),buffetingandflutter.Forwobblyfootbridgesacomprehensiveprotocolfordesigningunderwindsisadvancedbasedonafieldmeasurementcampaignthatreliesonavalidated"citizensensing"tomonitordynamicsofremotebridges.Regardingthemodernlongspanbridgeswithstreamlinesdecksissuessurroundingnonlinearaerodynamicsandtheroleofturbulenceandnon-stationarywindsarehighlighted.Acacheofsolutionsbasedonreduced-ordermodelstocapturenonlinearfeaturesthesebridgesareknowntoexhibitarepresented.Theroleofshapeoptimizationofbridgedecksisdiscussedwithavisionofreal-timemorphingofbridgedeckprofilethroughsensing,optimization,machinelearningandactuation.Thisfuturisticautonomousapproachpromisestoenhancetheperformanceofbridgestooptimalunderarangeofwindactionsthatinclude,VIV,buffetingandflutter.
