Accordingtothesurvey,20%fataltrafficaccidentsarecausedbyfatiguedriving.Adaptivecruisecontrol(ACC)sys-templaysanimportantroleinreducingfatiguedriving.InthestudyofAdaptiveCruiseControl,thecorecontrolalgorithmisamajorre-searchdirection.Atpresent,ProportionIntegralDifferential(PID)iswidelyusedinACC.However,thePIDhassomedrawbacks,suchasovershootandoscillation,whichcausethepoortrackingperformance.Inthispaper,thesimulationmodelofACCisconstructedbyMatlab,thentheoptimalcontrolalgorithmisappliedtoACCwhichbasicapplicationflowandthechoicesofparemetersaredis-cussed,FinallythetrackingperformancebasedonoptomalcontroliscomparedtoPIDbycomparingtheresidualsumsofsquares.Thefollowingconclusioncanbedrawnfromthestudy,optimalcontrolhasbettertrackingperformancethanPID.
