Parkingisoneofthefundamentalservicesandrequirementsforeffectivemobility.WhileIntelligentTransportSystemshavebeenappliedtomanyaspectsofparking,therearestillmajoropportunitiestoincreaseeffectivemanagementandtoimprovecustomerservices.Wehaveseentheintroductionofnewtechnologytoparkingovertheyears.Theserangefromparkingavailabilityinformationsigning,emptyspaceidentification,paymentsystemsandsecuritysolutions.However,whenitcomestoon-streetparkingwehave(apartfrompaymentoptions)notmademanychangessincetheintroductionoftheparkingmeter.Researchershavebeenworkingonparkingsolutionsinrecentyears.Theresultisanewapproachtoon-streetparkingwhichprovidestheauthoritieswithincreasedinformationandflexibilitytoimplementandachievepolicyobjectives.Theintroductionofdynamicparkingpricingforon-streetparkingspaces,providesanintelligencebasedapproachwhichcanbelocallycalibrated.Byvaryingratesbylocationandtimeofdayparkingspaceavailabilitycanbeincreasedandcustomerconvenienceimproved.Thisisasolutionthatcanbetterinfluencedemandandadapttosituationswhileoptimisingparkingcapacity.Thisinturncanbetterachieverevenuetargets,maximisepolicyoutcomesandimproveservices.
