Earthquake-inducedliquefactionposesariskoffloatationofundergroundstructureslocatedinliquefiablesoildeposits.Thisfailurephenomenongenerallyoccurswhenthesoilliquefiesandlosesitsshearresistanceagainsttheupliftforcefromthebuoyancyoftheundergroundstructure,suchastunnelsandpipelines.Inthispaper,theseismicbehaviorofashallowrectangularmetrotunnelisinvestigatedusinganeffectivestressbasedsoil-watercouplingfiniteelementmethod.Thebehaviorofsoilsaredescribedbymeansofacyclicelasto-plasticconstitutivemodelinwhich,thestress-inducedanisotropy,thedensityandstructureofgroundcanbedescribedinaunifiedway.Theresultsshowedamatchingupliftresponseofthestructure,acceleration,andporepressureandgrounddisplacement.Specialemphasisisgiventoanalyzetheresultofexcessporewaterpressures,stresspath,acceleration,deformations.Thedisplacementofsoilaroundthestructurewasconfirmedtoresembleaflowmechanismfromtwosidesofthestructuretoitsinvertwhichisdifferentfromtheglobalcircularflowmechanismofcirculartunnels.
