EasternCapeisoneoftheregionsinSouthAfrica,whichfulfilspre-conditionsforcorridordevelopment.Thisstudyinvestigatedthedifferentcasestoconstructthecorridordevelopmentinthisregion.ThesecasesmaycontributefortheEasternCapeeconomicgrowth.Weusetransportcorridorsascorridordevelopmentapproachtoprovideabackboneorspatialfocusforregionalcooperationonsustainableprojects,clusteringthemalongcorridorsoratnodalcentresonthecorridors.Then,weconsiderspatialunitssuchascities.Citiescanbeconceivedasnodesinanetwork.Theirdevelopmentisinfluencedbythequalityoflinkswithcomprehensivemeans:roads,railways,canals,airportsandseaports.Thus,weanalyzetheeffectofchangesintransportlinks(e.g.highway)ontherelativepositionofcities.Asaresult,wefindthattransportationcorridorintheEasternCapethatwouldbemostsuitablefortheimplementationoffixed-guideway,highcapacity(railorbusrapidtransit)serviceandfortransitorienteddevelopmenttosupporthighercapacitytransitservices.AndwealsofindthatcorridordevelopmentconstructedinthisregioncancontributesignificantlyoneconomicgrowthforSouthAfricaasawhole.
